Hi!  Welcome! Become a Member of the Associazione Italo Americana FVG / American Corner Trieste. We are not just a film club.  Since 1961 we have been offering a full immersion experience in English for all ages, without leaving Trieste.First things first...
How much does it cost to be come a member?
€25 for "Ridotto":  Students (over age 16), Teachers, and 65 years and older
€35 for "Intero" :  Regular Adult Membership
How do I become a member?
You can come by our office and fill in our membership form. We strongly encourage you to renew your membership in our office BEFORE the First Movie. On movie night at the cinema, it is always very crowded and a bit chaotic. You can become a member any time of year.   We are located in Piazza S. Antonio, 6 - Trieste - tel: 040 63 03 01, aia.fvg@gmail.com.  Office Hours: Monday to Friday 4-7 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 9-noon.

How can I pay?
We accept Cash, Checks, IBAN (if you pay by IBAN please specify in the request your first and last name and that is for Iscrizione Socio 2014/15).  Bring a print of your IBAN Payment when you fill in your form to receive your membership card and your receipt.

How long is my membership valid?
Membership lasts for 1 school year from September 2014 until September 2015. You must renew each year.

Can I go to the American Film Series if I am not a member?
Sorry, you have to be a member.  We cannot sell single tickets.

Can my partner go to the movies too?
Of course, but they have to become a member.

When is the first film?
Thursday, October 30th with showtimes at 2,4,6:30, 9 p.m.  The Way Way Back.
 
 
In case you were wondering, we are a volunteer run non-profit association.  We have over 60 volunteers!  Become a volunteer.

OCTOBER
Hard to beat September, but we probably will!  Welcome to all of our new students and new members! In addition to our regular activities we are adding:  Family Date Night and Totally Teen Club and our traditional Halloween Party for children.  Our main event for the month will be “Our American Days – I Nostri Giorni Americani” to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the departure of the TRUST – Trieste US Troops.  Lots going on!  Read carefully and check our links.  We don’t want you to miss a thing!
 
It’s that time of year again!  You can purchase your Memberships for 2014/15.  The prices remain unchanged:  €35 for the Regular Adult Membership and €25 for Students age 16 and over, Teachers and over age 65.  To attend courses, the student (or their parent must be a member).  Membership is valid for checking out books, magazines, DVD’s and for the 2014/15 American Cinema Program in the Original Version at Cinema dei Fabbri beginning on October 30th.  Membership is valid one school year and must be renewed annually.

Trieste USA 1945-54.  We are an exhibition space in this city-wide photographic exhibit with photos from the TRUST days, from the Fototeca Civici Musei Storia ed Arte di Trieste, the Henriquez Collection and Ugo Borsatti and collectors.  Come in and take a look at Trieste from 1945-54.

Oct. 3rd 5-7 pm – Totally Teen Club – Teen Organizing Meeting to see what teens want to do!  Come down – for ages 13-20.  Open to the Public.  Bring your thinking caps!  It will be what you teens want it to be! Lego Mindstorms, Movies, Games, Video Film Making, Karaoke?  You decide!

WOMEN’S SPACE –OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Oct. 20th – 6-7 pm, Conference:  The US Mexico Border Wall:  Life Stories on the Fringe, Speaker:  Lea-Sophie Lazic-Reuschel – The debate on US Immigration Reform and the Stories of Mexican Migrants.

 


The stats are in:  10 hours and 30 minutes, 355 pages, 117 volunteer readers from age 14 to 88 anni, 3 languages (English, Italian, Spanish).  Thanks to all participants for making this a great event! 

In case you missed it you can see the photos of all readers on the American Corner Trieste Facebook Page and watch the recorded readings of John Phillips, US Ambassador to Italy, Jeff Galvin,  Elizabeth McKay, Nicholas Giacobbe.  Mayor Roberto Cosolini was also a reader as were 2 classes from Liceo Nordio.  What a way to celebrate the European Day of Languages!  Congratulations to Noemi Roma, 3C of the Liceo Artistico Umberto Nordio, for winning the Kindle Paperwhite!

 

AMERICAN CORNER TRIESTE – Programs, consultation of the library, public internet access computers, and Wi-Fi are always free and open to the public.  It’s a great place to study, meet friends, bring your kids.  While you’re at it, send us an e-mail to get a password for eLibraryUSA , a fantastic on-line library and resource center for American Corner patrons around the world.

Read-a-Thon - What a success!

Read-a-thon is over!  We finished A Farewell to Arms in 10.5 hours - from 9 am until 7:30 pm!

Trama: A Farewell to Arms - Addio alle Armi (1929)

Frederick Henry, americano volontario, autista di ambulanze in Italia con la Croce Rossa durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, viene ferito e poi si innamora della sua infermiera britannica, Catherine Barkley. In mezzo alla guerra, la coppia prova di restare unita e sopravvivere l'orrore che sta intorno.

Perchè A Farewell to Arms?

- Hemingway è un autore classico americano
- A Farewell to Arms è stato giudicato da molti esperti come suo miglior romanzo e uno dei romanzi più significativi, oltre che di successo, dell'intero Novecento.
- La storia si svolge in Friuli Venezia Giulia prima durante e dopo Caporetto.
- Sono 100 anni dall'inizio della Prima Guerra Mondiale
Hemingway, volontario, lavorava con la Croce Rossa in supporto alle truppe italiane durante la guerra, ed è stato anche ferito durante il conflitto.
- A Farewell to Arms è stato un libro bandito in molte biblioteche, e questo è anche il mese dei libri banditi. Questo romanzo, pubblicato nel inizialmente nel 1929, non poteva essere pubblicato in Italia fino al 1948 perché ritenuto lesivo dell'onore delle Forze Armate dal regime fascista, sia per la descrizione della disfatta di Caporetto, sia per un certo antimilitarismo sottinteso nell'opera.
- E' la Giornata Europea delle Lingue. Come meglio festeggiare che con un romanzo classico in inglese, scritto da un autore americano che amava l'Europa!

Bring in your classes, your friends, fellow students, your colleagues.  It is European Day of Languages.  You can read in English or Italian or in whatever language you have the book in!  We have English and Italian, you have to bring the book in other languages.  We are reading in chronological order.

Trama: A Farewell to Arms - Addio alle Armi (1929)

Frederick Henry, americano volontario, autista di ambulanze in Italia con la Croce Rossa durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, viene ferito e poi si innamora della sua infermiera britannica, Catherine Barkley. In mezzo alla guerra, la coppia prova di restare unita e sopravvivere l'orrore che sta intorno.

Perchè A Farewell to Arms?

- Hemingway è un autore classico americano
- A Farewell to Arms è stato giudicato da molti esperti come suo miglior romanzo e uno dei romanzi più significativi, oltre che di successo, dell'intero Novecento.
- La storia si svolge in Friuli Venezia Giulia prima durante e dopo Caporetto.
- Sono 100 anni dall'inizio della Prima Guerra Mondiale
Hemingway, volontario, lavorava con la Croce Rossa in supporto alle truppe italiane durante la guerra, ed è stato anche ferito durante il conflitto.
- A Farewell to Arms è stato un libro bandito in molte biblioteche, e questo è anche il mese dei libri banditi. Questo romanzo, pubblicato nel inizialmente nel 1929, non poteva essere pubblicato in Italia fino al 1948 perché ritenuto lesivo dell'onore delle Forze Armate dal regime fascista, sia per la descrizione della disfatta di Caporetto, sia per un certo antimilitarismo sottinteso nell'opera.
- E' la Giornata Europea delle Lingue. Come meglio festeggiare che con un romanzo classico in inglese, scritto da un autore americano che amava l'Europa!

Bring in your classes, your friends, fellow students, your colleagues.  It is European Day of Languages.  You can read in English or Italian or in whatever language you have the book in!  We have English and Italian, you have to bring the book in other languages.  We are reading in chronological order.

This year we will have:  12 weeks in Fall, 12 weeks in Winter and 10 weeks in Spring.  Hourly prices remain unchanged, but instead of 10 weeks each quarter, we now have 12 in Fall and Winter.
